I only have time to do my banking on weekends. So, I opened an account with this bank in the poorer part of the city where migrant workers and pensioners flock to because it is in the middle of town and very near the main bus-stop. I was there last weekend because I need to meet up with the officer for some matters.
It is one of the most humbling experience because I realized that while the poor folks need a bank but they are not always treated equally. I get to walk straight to the counter and be served because I am a regular client. Meanwhile, the old, the lame and the weak have to take a number and wait for their turn. It is not that the bank practised double standards but that’s how life is. Money makes a whole lot of difference. Sometimes, the poorer folks are getting shortchanged when they are charged bank charges which add on to their misery as they do not have much cash to spare.
I still make trips to the bank because I do not do my banking online and my make money online income go into the bank. My hubby took care of the bills and etc so I do not care about that part. Frankly, I do not enjoy the idea of online banking because to me, it is not totally secure. So, what we do is to have a smaller current accounts with a little cash to deal with all the payments.
Anyway, all the above thoughts just occurred to me while I was reviewing this site where one can compare saving accounts. I hope all the folks who are sending their hard earned money home will know how to find the best bank rates and not getting shortchanged.
