Above All - Michael W. Smith
by lilian ~ September 17th, 2007
Of all the Christian songs, I think this is one of my most favourite. Times when I felt that I have been taken granted, I try to remind myself that sometimes, we don’t have to be appreciated for what we did. It is not easy to walk away when people mistook our good deeds and it is painful to be blamed for things.I am sure all of us do go through hard times like those. It could be our own family treatment or misunderstandings from our friends and people we look up to.

Therefore, I always remind myself that Christ has gracefully took it all for our sake. So, sometimes when we took the brunt of things, we just have to hold up head up high and know the rewards come from heaven.Talking about appreciation and rewards, I once confessed during the Sacrament of Reconciliation that sometimes, I couldn’t undertake things because I could not shoulder the feelings of gratitude from people whom I had helped. Once, I used to be the pillar of strength to a lot of bereaved parents and those parents who are critically in the hospital. I probably gathered the courage and wisdom from the Lord. Yet, when they show their gratitude, I felt so difficult to accept. I do not want their thanks nor their appreciation and feel suffocating.
The priest told me that I could be like a thief. Just go and help and leave them behind. Do not expect anything.

So, at the end, I do not know what I want. Appreciation for my deeds or being ignored for them. I guess we just move on and live another day, help another one and some day, we probably can look back on a life well lived.

I remember I was acting in a skit as Jesus who was nailed to the cross while the song played in Youth Rally 05 (or was it another camp). Love this song lots. Thanks for sharing, Lilian. First time in this blog of yours.
