Advent begins this Sunday. I hope to be able to find a church to celebrate the arrival of Advent. Since I will be away, I hope to make it into a shopping trip as well. I have been wanting to find a Christmas crib so that I can place it at home with my Christmas tree. You know…the scene of baby Jesus in a crib with all the sheep around baby Jesus? I just love the feel of the manger and the baby crib made of twigs and hay. Such a beautiful reminder that our Lord is born in a humble abode, minus all the frills of beautiful baby cot or fancy hotel room.
I just learnt about the Ignatian Contemplation method of prayer. It is a way of prayer using our imagination. Using the Ingnation Contemplation, we go into the scene of the gospel and imagine we are part of the scene. I would like to imagine being one of the sherpeds witnessing the birth of our Lord. How Mary cuddle the Son of God and breastfed the little baby. Did she have a rocking chair while nursing baby Jesus? Did she get face the pains like us new moms when we have our babies? Wouldn’t it be wonderful to be there to witness Jesus’s birth?
So, beside finding a crib to make my home warmer for Christmas, I am going to give the Ignatian Contemplation method of prayer a try. Our psychology course taught us that dreamworks, active imagination and other methods are a way to bring us closer to our Lord and also our unconscious mind.
