I am getting off the daily readings because sometimes, what struck me most is not necessary what I am supposed to read. So, in the Bible, there was this story about a good samaritan. Jesus told a story of a man who was robbed and beaten, left by the roadside. A priest saw the man and crossed the road. Another one, who is from the same tribe (Levite?) too did the same thing. However, a Samaritan (or what they considered the lower caste people) went out of his way to help the man.
Out of the three, the one whom is considered a neighbor is the Samaritan. It is the one whom has mercy on injured man.
We know that Christians like to preach, “Love your neighbor as you love yourself.” For once, I realized that neighbors do not necessary mean the people who are part of us but rather, those whom we should have mercy on. And vice-versa. This is why I am often chided by fellow Christians for not being ‘Christian-y’ enough because in their eyes, they expect me to blend and mould myself into their expectations.
Meantime, I go out of tangent and leave the comfort zone because if we don’t, how are we going to reach out to the unbelievers and those who do not know Christ? If we keep our preachy-preachy, holy-moley facade, people cannot reach out to us and hence, we have shut them out from hearing the Good News.
So, amen! I can safely say, “Lord, help me to do Your Will.” Give me the wisdom to act according to the situations. Do not let me cross the road to avoid dirtying myself.
