I have been thinking about this Martha and Mary situation. The whole time, I try to figure out things. You see, Mary and Martha were two women who were indebted to Jesus because Jesus raised their brother, Lazarus from death.

So, they adore him and follow him around. One day, there is a party in their house. Jesus went to the house, Mary sat down at His feet to listen to His preachings while Martha was so busy preparing for a banquet. Remember that at that time, Jesus is a man, not  God nor  the Holy Spirit yet. So, there He is, sitting down chatting and this woman, Mary dropped everything to adore His wisdom.

40But Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made. She came to him and asked, “Lord, don’t you care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself? Tell her to help me!”

41“Martha, Martha,” the Lord answered, “you are worried and upset about many things, 42but only one thing is needed.[a] Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.”

(Biblegateway)

Let’s put ourself in Martha’s shoes. Wouldn’t you be dead frustrated to hear what Jesus said? Well, unless we understand deeply, we probably think it is nuts to do nothing but relying on God’s Word. Just drop everything in our life and do nothing.

But I guess it is a parable to remind us that sometimes, we musn’t sweat the small stuffs but give God  the credit that He will help us out of most things. We do not have to worry too much, rely too hard on our human capability but instead, trust God to provide the best solution for us.

Well, if I choose to be like Martha, I will be dead worried that within the next few days, I will be the wife of an unemployed man who probably will annoy the hell out of me because we will be spending too much time together. But no, I have the faith of a child, i.e. of Mary. I trust the Lord to find what’s best for us. I look forward to him spending more time with the kids while I get to enjoy his company for days and weeks and months *fingers crossed, not*. I see it as a long holiday where we can go anywhere anytime. The Lord has blessed us with enough to last for a while so I have no worries in that department. Thy will be done, Lord.
