Of all the days in the Catholic Christian calendar, Good Friday is probably the most sombre of all as we are anticipating Jesus’s death. On this day, the mass in church is carried out with any organ music to accompany the hymns. There are no bells. On the whole, it is one long mass with a lot of sad moments.

The priest prostates at the altar, face down, showing complete submission. The congregation listen to the Word of God and the readings are usually the final moments of Jesus. We then venerate at the cross. That action normally filled me with a lot of feelings of repentance. I have done wrong, I am not worthy, I beg for forgiveness from the Lord who died for me. It is all very sad.

So, why is it call Good Friday? Which part of the day is good? Well, I have read a bit here and there, from several sites trying to explain why Good Friday is call good.

I will make my own conclusion. It is the day when Jesus came on earth to unite us with God through His death. As Christians, we know this death is not the end but the beginning. It is supposed to be the end of our wretched life and on Sunday, when Jesus is Risen again, we are suppose to emerge in the new birth. So, without this day, we cannot move on. Now that Jesus has shed His blood on the cross for us, we have the chance of the promised land. That is something good.
