That seems to be the message I get from homily this morning. The Gospel is about the woman who adamantly clinged to Jesus and asked Him to help her daughter. Back in those days, the woman is what we call the sampah masyarakat (the low class nobodies) and she has no business bugging Jesus. However, she begged Him to heal her daughter. Initially, Jesus tried to turn her away because He said He was there to save the high class people and not people like her. You need to transport yourself back into the Biblical times to understand how things work then or else this may seem harsh and unbecoming for a loving God like ours. Remember that Jesus was the Son of Man, walking on earth at that time.
Yet, the woman refused to take no for an answer and insisted that even the dogs get the scraps of foods and so she compared herself in that situation. Her faith that Jesus can help her daughter had moved Jesus and He said, “Woman, you have great faith. Let your wish be granted.”
Then, FF touched on the prejudices and myths in our world and quoted examples of the myths found around us. How often the superiority of one rules over the other He said in order for one to achieve something, one has to have courage and focus. Of course, I have left out all the details of the homily.
FF went on to explain to the assembly how justice and politics play a part in our lives etc etc. Faith liberates reason from its blind spots. I jotted down faith > reason purifies > justice.
And he reminded us Catholics our roles and using Jesus as our role model. One reminder that wake me up is our responsibility.
Overall, the homily is one of the bravest I have heard so far. However, back to my title….though the homily mostly touched on the current issue, I heard something else. The courage that I must find within me to approach a high authority. I am still pondering over the matter but I know what I need to do. Have the courage and keep focussing on it.
Will I or won’t I? Another soul searching for me again.
