I am glad to read on Malaysiakini that Sime Darby has called off the proposal to privatise Institut Jantung Negara.
I ranted and gave my opinions about IJN privatisation based on my own experiences of caring for my fourth son who was warded an the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit in University Malaya Medical Centre in 2002 before he died. It was also based on my ex-colleague’s trauma of having a baby warded in IJN.
Excerpt of the news here :
Citing public opposition, conglomerate Sime Darby Berhad today announced that it would not pursue its ambitious plan to take over the National Heart Institute (IJN).
In a statement issued later in the day, the multinational company said that the decision was made after taking into consideration the “public sentiment and feedback” on the matter.
The group’s chief executive officer and president Ahmad Zubir Murshid said that the company has to respect the “wishes of the rakyat” for IJN to remain in its present structure
Well, I am glad they have the decency to know that we rakyats are not to be messed with. Even an uninformed person like me knows what a ‘big fish’ it is for Sime Darby to just casually go in and keep the ‘big fish’ in their tanks, charging patients exhorbitant fees while they buy up the hospital at chicken feeds price.
It is indeed true when God says a servant cannot serve two masters. It is either God or money. Right now, in our country, it seems to be ruled by money and only money. We shall continue to pray and persevere for Thy Kingdom come.
