I did something that I am not totally proud of.  Yet, I didn’t know I have the guts to do that.

Last Saturday, there was a talk for parents to remind us about the challenges we face in bringing up our children in the current time.  I must thank God that I have been blessed with very obedient children and though one or two of them do not show much love and passion for church works, one or two are very happy being part of the community.

I rely on my prayers as a mom to ask Jesus to guide them in the right path all the time. And God has been great all the time.

Anyway, back to the talk last Saturday.  The speaker is a very vocal man and he has been involved in many communities efforts which sometimes do not go down well with politics.  Well, when you are fighting for better working environment for estate workers, you do tend to step on the toes of those pointy, shiny shoes.

After the talk, a person asked what we Christians should do in a situation where all sorts of names were hurled at us and especially at our Lord.  I am a very vocal person and I am the type who cannot just sit down and listen eventhough I am scared sh*tless in a big hall like that.  But in my opinion, if one has to ask what one needs to do, then, something must be told.

The person actually referred to the case which I had blogged and was familiar with.  The speaker wasn’t very sure what was going on.  So, I cannot sit down there and pretend not to know anything.  I do not want parents to adopt these stance of ‘I do not know, I do not care and hence, probably nothing will happen’.

I put up my hands and the speaker passed me the mike!  OMG, I was damn nervous but the fire inside overtook my nervousness.  I am going to tell those parents that we cannot just continue our pretty-pretty, orderly lives and think that our children will probably not be aware of anything.   Out there, our children are exposed to all the political debates that their parents are probably not aware of.

So, I explained to them about the forces that we are facing as Christians and how we should do our bit in bringing awareness of how great or marvellous or NOT our governing body is.  Our children’s future depend on the vote we are going to cast.    Their education, well-being, environment and many more depend on how well informed we are as parents.

I spoke for a while and I hate the nervousness in my voice.  But heck, I said what I needed and I escaped when the talk is over.  A few stopped me and asked me for my URL.  Because I had so proudly introduced myself as Lilian, I am a blogger.  I hope none found me.  Muahahar.

  1. As Christians, we should be guided by the Holy Spirit and that includes exercising our duties and fulfilling our obligations as citizens of this country. Register as voters and vote according to God’s guidance.
