*This post is not meant to be offensive to other faiths but merely, my own comparison between my previous faith and Christianity. If you are easily offended with comparison of faiths, sorry I cannot help it but to ask you to just exit. These are all based on my personal experiences so I am not apologetic over any ruffled feathers.*
Once, I was brought up to believe in little devils, unseen souls, lost souls, hungry ghosts, hovering datuk kongs (i.e. some Malay spirit), all kind of deities who get angry easily and even revenging spirits. I lived my life based on remembering which spirit or ghost to avoid, how not to offend any deities (like never serve any non-halal kunyit rice and curry chicken to datuk kong), what date is suitable for doing things and also feng shui.
My relatvies shunned me when my son died because it is of utmost bad luck to attend a baby or child’s funeral. Babies have no business in getting even a proper funeral or ‘disposal’ of the body. It is crash, burn and scatter.
The deceased will play a contributing factor to our good luck or bad luck if we don’t deal with their funeral properly. When a body is moved from the hearse to the house, all relatives must run far away because it is believed bad luck will linger on those around.
If the coffin is moved during the funeral, no one is to see that. There were so much superstitions. I am almost an expert in all of them.
Thank God that He picked me up from this religion of fears and punishments. He liberated me. God gave me a second chance. Today, I can pooh-pooh at all those because I know there is only one God. The God that has power over all on earth and afterlife. I do not have to worry about bad luck, bad placement of fengshui, bumping into bad spirits and such because Jesus is with me. All the time.
I shall do what my heart prompts me. I shall not fear. I shall go out and tell others to liberate themselves from this religion of fear. I shall tell them that everyone gets a second chance if they are ready to open up their hearts.
(well…not really…I won’t tell every single person, only certain faiths. I am not suppose to tell every single one because it is against the law and they can stuff me in jail.)
