In the first session, we touched on King Solomon and St. Paul’s lives. I have always loved to read King Solomon Ecclesiastes because he is full of complaints, whinings, rantings and all those negatives things and thoughts that we encounter each day. However, at the end of it, King Solomon found a lot of wisdoms from them.

In the home reflection, we were asked to read Ecc chapter 9 and chapter 12 and make conclusion. I jotted down in my notebook the followings :

What conclusion did Solomon reach at the end of his life?

I said : He realised that he rely on God and not on his own achievements.

Question 2 : As Paul neared his death, what did he tell Timothy in 2 Tim 4:1-5?

2Preach the Word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke and encourage—with great patience and careful instruction. 3For the time will come when men will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear. 4They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths. 5But you, keep your head in all situations, endure hardship, do the work of an evangelist, discharge all the duties of your ministry.

I wonder how did I missed these verses from so many of my Bible reflections? I just love the manner of which Paul urged Timothy to preach the Word of God. LOL, the itching ears want to hear only what they want to hear. It sounds so funny and yet so relevant.

Question 3, “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.”

I refer to the above as the funeral wake verse. I hope someday, when I am about to die, I can say the above with pride.

Question 4 : What do you learn from Solomon and Paul that could help you in your life?

That I can be as rotten and whiney and full of complaints and all those negative stuffs, and yet, don’t feel too bad because we are all humans and someday, if we try hard enough, we probably end up with them. Both of them can only do so much and they had tried their best. Conclusion - Don’t sweat the small stuffs.

I think if my facilitators and group members read what I had written, they probably will foam from their mouth.

So, there you are. I have completed my ‘homework’ for three weeks within an hour.
