i) Romans 12:1-2
Living Sacrifices
1Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God—this is your spiritual[a] act of worship. 2Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.
a) What barriers keep you from dedicating your life to God?
Errmmm..exactly how much does one need to sacrifice in order to be considered as a ’sacrifice’? How much does on need to dedicate? In my opinion, I am already ‘trying hard’ in this area and I hope to increase that dedication when there are less physical things that I need to attend to. I know someday, I will get there.
b) Ask God to show you areas in your life which you need to surrender to Him.
I actually did that a month ago. I made a cold turkey withdrawal from my make money online syndrome and I forego a lot of income when I rejected many opportunities. The reason is I want to test if I am the money-eyed, blinded to greenbacks blogger or am I built for bigger things. I think when I revive this blog and started blogging consistently, it is with the Holy Spirit’s promptings. I expect more challenges ahead and I am not surrendering but rather taking a risk in touching on touchy religious issues.
(other areas are private so they are not mentioned here)
ii) Read 1 Cor 6:19-20
19Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; 20you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your body.
In what ways do we :
a) destroy our bodies;
Hahaha, I am not the 18 years old virgin so this question is mighty funny to me. I am not abusing my body in anyway. So, nay, not me! However, when I was in the session, many ladies proudly said that they have no interests in keeping themselves beautiful because they said they are beautiful in God’s eyes. I was like, “Ouch!” As far as I am concerned, I won’t be walking around like a sack of potatoes in gunny sack because hey, we certainly do not want people to associates Christians with frumpiness. I will stick to my darling Auntie Suzanne’s advice. “You must keep yourself pretty, girl. Because if you feel good, you will make others around you feel good.” Auntie S is twice my age and she is certainly like 20 years younger than a lot of women her age. LOL, in fact, many women her age are probably dead.
b) nourish and nurture our bodies
However, I have yet to keep up to Auntie S’ health regime. Never mind, she said she only started caring for her health when she was my age. So I still have a year or two to start.
iii) Read Psalm 16:8-9
8 I have set the LORD always before me.
Because he is at my right hand,
I will not be shaken.9 Therefore my heart is glad and my tongue rejoices;
my body also will rest secure,
During Session 2, if I am not mistaken, I was dealing with my dying in-law. I was at his bedside, urging him to fight the last breath, to stay and wait for his daughter’s return. If it is not God who was with me at those moments, I know I won’t have the courage. If it wasn’t the Lord who guided me, I know I won’t have the open heart to help them with their funeral arrangements. So, my heart is always glad that I am the special chosen one who was put in their lives to ease their most grieving moments. Thank you, Lord.
