It is already Monday morning. My cough is still very bad. I cannot expose my throat to dry air, ie. talk too much or open my mouth because the moment it is dry, the throat is so itchy and I would be coughing till I am red in the face with tears streaming out.
Therefore, it doesn’t look like I am healthy enough to go for my volunteer work. I cannot risk bringing my germs to the patients. My son joked that I am just being lazy and ‘eating snake’. I told him God works in mysterious ways. For He knows what is best for me, so He put me right at home with a flu and a hacking cough.
I just baked a very nice sugee cake and I know what I am going to do with it. The recipe produced two large cakes. Tomorrow (or rather today when I wake up), I am going to bring one to the nurses and give it to them as a Christmas gift. Again, my son joked that I am bribing them. I told him, God works in mysterious ways. Hahaha. He wants me to cheer the nurses for taking care of the patients so well. So, it is good to bring some cheer to these selfless souls who take care of the cancer patients. Usually nurses were taken for granted and they do not get the appreciation they deserve. I have stayed in hospital long enough to see what special souls nurses are.
I hope one of the nuns is still around or else I shall just quietly ‘eat snake’ and don’t go to the hospital for the rest of the week. I will drive to the hospital, run up to pass them my gift and come home. Ok, this is just my way of unloading my selfish, secret, little gladness that I am sick enough to skip my work and yet, not too sick to be put into bed.
Whatever it is, I am going to will myself to get back my voice by Christmas morning because I have just volunteered to do the reading at 7 am and the choir at 9 am. The only thing I am glad is I have not planned to throw any major Christmas dinner that involves 20-30 people like last year. This year, my sons, husband and I are just going to have a simple meal as God works in mysterious ways. I am too sick to cook, you see? So, I got excuses to be lazy.
I pray I am well in two days. This morning, I found that I am still weak and during choir practice, I need to gulp 500 ml of some horrible Chinese cooling drinks to prevent coughing. At intervals, standing made me tired. During mass, I had to suck on a cough drop before communion and I wonder if other parishioners notice this woman who eat before communion. Bah, who cares. I am sick, you know?

Hope you get well soon.
Nobody likes a sore throat or to cough a lot during Christmas. You can’t enjoy the goodies!!
Merry Christmas!
