Normally, on weekends, I update the church bulletin and mass schedules when I received the mail from the church office. Today, one news made me sad. Thief stole the statue of Mother Mary from my church’s garden. It is kind of worrying why someone would do that because the statue is not the most expensive and is just small one. I know many parishioners are very fond of praying at the garden, asking for Our Lady of Lourdes to intercede for them.

My hubby, a non-Christian Catholic (and doesn’t seem to be one anytime soon :) ) had spent one long session to decorate the grotto (a rock formation where the statue is placed) and I was so inspired by his faithfulness in helping out with the handyman committe in my church.

Now, the statue is gone. If it is the work of a drug addict out to make some quick bucks, then, it is not as worrying as other ulterior motives. Because the statue will surface somwhere when the quick bucks changed hands. Otherwise…..well, I do not wish to think further. This is just so sad.

Below is what I copied from my church’s bulletin.

STATUE STOLEN

The statue of Our Lady of Lourdes in our grotto was stolen on Wednesday night. Police report was made and they came to inspect the place on Thursday noon and till today nothing has come to light.

Just last week thieves broke into Our Mother of Perpetual Help church in Ipoh and stole the ciboria with the consecrated hosts which was in the tabernacle.

A local daily paper (Tamil) had a front page picture of Jesus with a cigarette in one hand a can (looks like beer can) in the other this week. The paper has apologised.

What is the trend setting in? Are we going to celebrate unity or suspicion on Malaysia day? Let us pray for integrity and goodwill.

I think Father F.A., our parish priest has asked a very pertinent question. Are we celebrating unity or suspicion?
