Just before Ash Wednesday, I was pigging out on some bloodied steak at a restaurant. My 12 years old son and I got into a conversation about being tempted by the devil.

So, I started with “Man does not live on bread alone..” and I was surprised that he could finish the verse from the Gospel. In fact, he remembered what the evil one offered Jesus in accordance with the order mentioned in the Bible. Praises to his catechism classes teachers from pre-school to Form One.

Then, we got into discussion about Christians verses and etc. I do wish that we have a ‘normal’ (in my eyes) family whereby we can sit down as a family and go through our Bible together. It will be beautiful if every families spend a certain time studying the Bible and discuss and reflect.

But I am afraid that is not our routine at the moment. The children were already quite big when we converted and I feel hubby may feel left out if we are too Christian-y. I am already thankful that he doesn’t mind they were baptised with me so I wouldn’t want to ‘brain-wash’ my kids too much at home in his presence.

Therefore, I normally try to find casual moments when we can just joke, laugh and talk about our Christian faith. However, with my youngest boy, he is a lot inquisitive by nature and I do enjoy moments when both of us go through the children five minute Bible and talk about our faith.

I hope other parents with young children who are both baptised, i.e. husband and wife, grab the opportunity for such family bonding when they can come together with their children and talk about God’s beautiful stories. Sometimes, we can learn so much from our children’s faith and Jesus’s love manisfested through our children will bring us spouses closer together.
