Our role as a citizen
by lilian ~ August 6th, 2007
Sunday mass was a very moving one. On the night before that, I was all worked up over some accusations hurled at Christians. After I expressed my disappointments at those people who got the wrong impression of Christianity, I did feel a little worried if I had gone too far. I do feel afraid if I am taking too much risk.
But soon, all my fears were put to rest. God has called us to build a community to make the world a better place. Therefore, each of us have our role to play. We cannot be too self-centered and think only of ourselves. So, I guess by voicing out that as a Christian that I am not happy about the current situation is better than to lie low and hope for someone to do the dirty job.
If we continue keeping silent, the others may think that what they hurled at us are true and we did not argue. So, I’d rather say it and let my feelings known than to play the smiling citizen with a bitter heart. I am glad to listen to the homily on Sunday mass. God reminds us to store up treasure on heavens and not be too engrossed with what is on earth. And the homily too enlightened us about the lack of help towards the current needs like those in building schools while billions are spent on megaprojects.
