Five years back, a 12 years old boy killed an 11 years old girl by stabbing her 20 times with the kitchen knife. We heard that the girl taunted him by calling him fatty and he lost it and stabbed her.
Today, the 17 years old boy is released from prison because our country’s law failed to pass judgement on him. One on hand, I am glad he has got a second chance. On the other hand, I wonder how he will manage and will he turned to even more gruesome crime in future?
Does the stress in him justified the action he did? Where did he go wrong? Was it his parent’s fault? None of us will really know but it is a good reminder to us parents that our children are our responsibilities. We have to be sensitive to them and know what they are feeling inside.
We are our friends and their trusted confidante. In my personal humble opinion, we have to seek our higher being to help us take care of the children and seek the Almighty help when things get too hard. Teens live very stressful lives nowadays and it is up to us parents to recognise the signs and not delay or ignore the importance of improving teen self esteem .
So, ultimately, it is the parents’ faults if the children turned to crime or get their lives messed. I believe we have to walk with them through the journey and accept them for what they are and not what we want them to be. Then again, there are parents who disagreed and insist that we parents know best and we should guide them. Unfortunately, the guide we are talking about may be ‘force’ to our kids.
Final word – It is hard to be a parent. God bless us all.

Hi,Lilian,
This boy and his family live in our neighbourhood, Setapak Jaya, Kuala Lumpur.
His father owns a Chinese herb shop and he is a very nice man.His wife is quite ok, just that a bit bah bai…sometimes.
We were shocked when we heard that their son killed the small girl. It’s shocking as who would have thought that this would happen in a small town !
I had lived in Setapak Jaya for many years before I moved to Ipoh. Thefts ,yes, of course. But,a small boy killed a small girl in this little peaceful Setapak Jaya ..unbelievable !! I am still baffled as to why he killed that little girl..
I am happy that he has been given second chance as he is only 17.Hope that he has turned over a new leaf..
