I have this very old booklet which contains prayers for individuals, families and groups. It was printed in 1982 and first published in 1979. The little booklet is sold in the Catholic shop. I bought it not long after my baptism because I do not where and how to begin praying.

Actually, we can pray with what our heart felt and we do not need to be concern about how to do it the right way. God hears us, no matter how we say our prayers. He knows us better than we know ourselves.

But sometimes, when we really cannot think of anything special to have that conversation with God, we can always turn to short prayer like this. It is a prayer before bedtime or it is called the evening prayers in this booklet.

Bedtime prayer

Oh my God, I adore you,
and I love you with all my heart.
I thank you for having created me and saved me by your grace,
and for having kept me safe through this day.
I pray that you will take for your glory whatever good I might have done this day.

Forgive me whatever evil I have done.
I am sorry that I have sinned against you.
Send your holy angel to protect me this night,
and may your grace be with me always,
through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen

Sometimes, when I have neglected to spend that few moments to devote to the Lord, I will just say a quick thank you Jesus, for a day well spent and give Him praise for a wonderful day.

Oh ya, don’t forget to pray for others as well. In fact, it is better we pray for someone else rather than just to pray for ourselves. Is there a friend who is hurting? Someone who is sick and need the Lord’s comfort? Anyone in need God’s grace?
