I have not heard of progressive nativity until now. I notice that Mt. Miriam hospital has a nice way of decorating their cribs. The crib is made of simple wooden planks and the roof is made of firs plucked from fir trees.
Then, the crib is slowly filled, day by day with the cows, Mary and Joseph, birth of baby Jesus on Christmas and the arrival of the Magi or three wise men. I took a peek at one of the nun’s sheet on progressive nativity and learnt that there is a timeline for the arrival of each thing and what prayers to say for each day.
I am embedding here a clip on The Nativity Story which is movie produced in 2006. It tells the story of Mary, how God blessed her with a baby, how Joseph accepted it, their trip to Bethlehem and the dangers they went through. There are parts on the killing of infants by Herod because he wanted to make sure that Jesus is killed at birth. However, Mary and Joseph managed to fled from danger.
I wish we get The Nativity Story in our local cinemas but that is wishful thinking. Otherwise, people may come to appreciate more the real meaning of Christmas instead of being jolly with Santa, the red nose reindeer and the mindless gifts giving.
Wikipedia has some lovely arts from centuries depicting the birth of Jesus. However, I cannot find the timeline for the Progressive Nativity and from what I remember, it starts on December 17 until the arrival of the three kings around January 6.
