Church of the Immaculate Conception, Penang

My son dragged me to a church which I have never been before. I am always tensed with new places because I want to make sure that I don’t stick out like a sore-thumb if their mass service is different from my regular church. For e.g. some pronounce Ah-men while I am so used to Eh-men. I know this is very silly but the Ah and the Eh do stick out, you know?

Anyway, I went with a heavy heart because there are things that I wish to find enlightenment. But the church has a priest whom I believe is a British man. His slang was heavy and I had a hard time understanding the homily. I know he talked about King Arthur and Amos, the Prophet and about money. I also know Christ mention about we serving only one master, i.e. God. And not money. And the sentence that stays in my mind is ‘Do not let money comes in between the truth.’ It is a good reminder.

But Lord, I am desperately searching for an answer to something else. You know my heart’s content so please give me that ‘aha’ factor. Maybe I will force myself out of bed tomorrow morning for the 7 am mass in my own church. I hope I find the ‘aha’ there. I know I can find God anywhere for He is in my heart. But heavy stuffs like this needs reflections. And only a church building, in the quietness of if, can I find the solitude and peace.

May the ‘aha’ be with you all. Amen.

  1. lilian when you go to a ‘foreign’ church but (Catholic ones la) do not be put off by its difference but rather look for that one thing which is similar, God is there in the Eucharist! Having God Almighty as your host is marvelous enough. A lot of ppl think that a church is just a building but it is not (a Catholic ones lar), we believe in Christ’s presence in the Eucharist. May you find your ‘aha’
