I am reading this chapter from Luke. John the Baptist is Jesus’s cousin and John was born before Jesus. It was foretold to John that he is to prepare the way for the messenger of God. Don’t ask me how the ‘foretold’ part is done but I guess it is part of a vision or dream.
So, John sent two guys to ask Jesus,
Luke 7:20When the men came to Jesus, they said, “John the Baptist sent us to you to ask, ‘Are you the one who was to come, or should we expect someone else?’ “
Jesus healed many people, right in front of others’ eyes. And Jesus told the guys to tell John, ”
and the good news is preached to the poor. 23Blessed is the man who does not fall away on account of me.”
To make the sentence clearer, here’s the Bahasa Melayu version,
“Berbahagialah orang yang tidak mempunyai keraguan terhadap Aku!” (Lukas 7:23)
Yet, despite of all that, the people there still disbelieve. Jesus continued to face many doubting persons.
Another part where Jesus seemed totally, totally pissed (if I can say it as I think the word best describe what we humans would feel).
33For John the Baptist came neither eating bread nor drinking wine, and you say, ‘He has a demon.’ 34The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and you say, ‘Here is a glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and “sinners.” ‘ 35But wisdom is proved right by all her children.”
(BM version of verse 35 : “Walaupun demikian, kebijaksanaan Allah dibuktikan benar oleh perbuatan semua orang yang menerima kebijaksanaan itu.”)
So, yeah, I can identify with Jesus’s frustrations now. It seems that we will always face a lot of doubts. Doubts from others that eventually crept into our own mind and we start to doubt along with them. And the moral of the story from here is, unless we can embrace the Word of God, in faith and with a blind trust, we won’t get far. Mr. Doubtful will blow every single speckle of faith away. Since I am not Jesus who is the Son of God, I shall have to remember His words, “Berbahagialah orang yang tidak mempunyai keraguan terhadap Aku!” So, shoo shoo, Mr. Doubtful and your gang of Doubties. ![]()
