This video has been most moving to me because it is through my sheer adventurous streak that got this video materialised. It started with my crazy idea of interviewing Brother Paul before he retires. I mailed to him using the SXI email but unfortunately, the mail did not get to him and I didn’t get any reply.
I was about to give up as I thought he will not likely to entertain a nobody like me. But I had an ‘encounter’ with him at church and dared myself to ask him personally, one last time. It is indeed a divine intervention because on that day, I was the lector on duty and so, he cannot exactly dismissed me because I was the person up there reading the Bible. Heh. Meaning, I am not some random stranger but a parishioner.
He turned out so friendly, warm and humble and he said YES! So, the first time, I went to SXI with my CJ partner and we did what we can. The interview I had with Brother Paul sort of blazed a traill of interest in many people. Ex-Xaverians were so excited to see the video. The Herald Online featured the interview I had with him. Some folks though not very sure of my name, recognised my voice in the video. To me, it was a ‘best seller’ because I managed to bring Brother Paul’s wisdom to the internet and shared with thousands of people.
Later on, our trainer from Malaysiakini, Maran suggested to make another video of Brother Paul. I mustered up another dose of courage to ask Brother Paul again. And as usual, he agreed. Weirdly, I was once again, the lector on that morning. Hmm…what’s with all the coincidences, huh?
The second round, I didn’t do any video filming but took almost 300 photos that morning. Now, when I look back, I know it is God’s grace that I am somehow involved in bringing Brother Paul to the mass media. It is a way of evangelizing and show the world what being Catholic is all about. The simplicity of wanting to serve and help the needy and poor. The faith in depending on God to provide the needful. Praise God for giving me the dose of courage to go beyond what I would otherwise, dare not even dream of.
