‘Long long ago when I was very young we used to have this Gideons Bible lying around the house. I don’t know how it ended up in our house but it was one fictional hilarious book to me as far as a 10 years old girl is concerned. You see I got glimpses of Genesis Noah’s Ark and things like that without truly understand the real meaning of the Bible.
Moreover the language used in the Gideons Bible is the olden English and one can’t seem to connect it to our real lives. So if anyone ask me know how they can learn about Christianity I will tell them to open their heart and ask God to guide them. Instead of diving straight into reading a Bible try inspirational books.
One of my favourite author is Max Lucado. I have almost every books of his. He uses the Bible and apply them to our daily modern lives. The next one is the Chicken Soup series. The Chicken Soup series do not really preach on Christianity but when you read all about the trials these people go through and how God has somehow played a part in their lives you tend to see Christianity on a more personal level.
Usually people like me i.e. before I turn to Christianity have this misconception that we are not worthy. We thought that God will not give us a second chance or even bothers about us because we see God as that Almigthy Being that has no time for us the little people with so many faults. But take heart that Jesus the Son of God the Lord has repeatedly said in the Bible that He is more interested in the one lost sheep compared to the 99. He explained at length the parable of a one lost coin. He said that a person will be most happy to find that lost coin after she/he has gone all out to find it and rejoice at finding it. We see ourselves as the one lost coin or sheep that God wants to find.
So if you are still unsure start a daily reading of the Daily Bread. You can either get it mailed to your post box or read it online. I too started to know Christianity from the Daily Bread. A physiotherapist Anne who was taking care of my ill son passed me a copy to uplift me when I was directionless. So I can say that I found Christ on my own accord with a few good people put into my path to guide me but never impose on me their beliefs.
