I am constantly searching for tips to improve in my reading. I have been a lector for about four years and yet, I feel like every duty is a new experience for me because there are so many things that I must remember. I am lucky that recent years, our church has provided us training and formation. When I began my lectoring duty, I did not have any formal training, no auditioning and I practically stumbled into my first duty.
Praise the Lord, I hang on even when I had decided that I wouldn’t want to put myself through the embarrassment of making mistakes. One can be overly critical of one self so being the perfectionist, I almost gave up because I couldn’t reach the ‘perfection’ I aimed for. Thank God I have understanding and helpful parishioners who are more senior than me in terms of lectoring duties who encouraged me to try harder.
Nowadays, with a bigger pool of lectors, lectoring duty only come by once a month or sometimes, one and a half month. So, the tension is less now but still, I must improve and keep improving because having the chance to proclaim God’s Word is the most awesome blessing from Him. One must give the very best to Him.
Here are some of the websites which I often refer to for tips for lectors in a Catholic church.
Beside the above, I also have purchased books to help me.
However, at the end of it, one still has to pray, pray and pray to calm the nerves.
