This morning, I read in the paper that the bank interest rate is going down again. Now, I picked up a news from Malaysiakini that Intel is closing its facilities in Penang.
Our parish priest has often reminded us about the current situation, telling us how many of our parishioners have lost their jobs or have their salary cut. He wants us to pray for these parishioners.
I can count myself lucky. My sons, hubby and I often joked, though in bad taste, that at least hubby has no job to lose this time. So, we have one less worry about him losing his job. However, it is rather demoralizing to see the interest rate keeps going down. It means less income for us because we have money in the FD.
Sometimes, I wonder if it is a wise move by the Government to keep lowering interests and keep talking about jumpstarting the economy by pumping more money. I wonder who is channeling all these money to help the economy? Isn’t it a vicious cycle? One day, things may collapse totally.
But then, what’s the point of worrying about this? It is times like these that we need to turn to God. For Jesus has assured us not to be afraid. He will calm the storm. He will help us through. Then again, how many people really have faith that Jesus will calm the storm. How many are able to weather the storm? How many people are wise enough to prepare themselves to face losing their job, selling their car, house and live a more humble life?
Maybe it is time I give thanks to the Lord that my family is still comfortably sheltered and provided. May the Lord continues to show His blessings on my family. And may those who are affected find Jesus calming presence.
